Can you clarify what "cookies" are?

As with most websites (and possibly *all* shopping websites) melodreamss.com uses a browser function called "cookies". A cookie is a cute yet rather peculiar chosen name for a small piece of information a website will place on your computer when you visit. This information is then recalled later in that session, or the next time you visit that same website.

A "session cookie" is created fresh, used each individual time you visit a website and stores information regarding that one visit only. It is removed when you close the browser.

A "persistent cookie" is one that gets stored for future recall for when you visit again. Over time, most users have hundreds or thousands of these persistent cookies on their computer. It's ok though, as the file sizes are so small it's inconsequential to the performance of your device.

What do cookies do?

A lot! Cookies are responsible for knowing where you are on a website, and where you have been on that same site. As such, they may be used to anticipate where you might prefer to go next, or record where you were for functions like "previously viewed products". They can save your customer information or responses so the next time you visit, you may not have to enter the same answer again, or be asked to go through an important process you already went through prior.

The also determine that your online shopping cart belongs to you, so you don't add something to someone else's cart by accident, or vice-versa. Cookies can also allow sites to customize the user experience to better suit your individual needs. Example: Perhaps you don't ever click on "X", but you seem to really like "Y". Therefore, you'll largely be shown "Y" going forward. In short, cookies allow enhancements to your user experience which wouldn't otherwise be possible.

Can cookies be dangerous?

It's like asking if broccoli is dangerous - one would almost absolutely say "no", but what if that broccoli was tainted with something malicious? Cookies are all over the internet and there's an excellent chance your computer has a folder somewhere full of them. 99.5% of these are bound to be completely safe. But there is such a thing called a "malicious cookie" or "tracking cookie", which questionable website owners may place on your device. These track you and your surfing habits, and then over time the information in this historical profile can be sold. Your best defense in this case: Clear your cookies every once in a while, and more importantly, visit only websites you trust. Like melodreams's. Simply put: We will never sell you out. (And other reputable companies won't either.)

Now I'm wondering... can I turn cookies off?

While you do have the ability in the browser settings to disable cookies, we strongly advise you keep them on, as many or most websites DO require cookies to function as intended and expected. Otherwise, you can turn cookies off but then "whitelist" websites you consider safe, such as melodreamss.com. Additionally, most browsers have a variety of cookie settings you can adjust if you want to modify or limit your overall use of cookies. Generally these settings be found under "privacy" or "security" in your browser software.

Your Browser

We recommend ensuring you are using the latest browser(s) to ensure you can fully utilize our website, as well as the others you visit. Google Chrome is generally accepted to be the most compatible with the latest online systems, although there are certainly many others such as Edge, and Safari for Apple and Mac products.

For your convenience and best viewing experience, our website is built with "responsive design" in mind. This is where the site will dynamically adjust size, structure and viewing behavior depending on the device being used, its screen size, and orientation. This allows for an optimal layout as it's custom designed to the specific device you are using, although it can make the experience slightly different between devices. Additionally, colours and shades will vary from device to device, and also depend on the viewing angle, individual display settings and performance of any given device.
